Case 31: Intermittent Haemoptysis

Your patient is a 56 year old male, presenting with a 6 week history of haemoptysis. Upon history taking and examination, you establish the following:

  • Streaks of blood in sputum.
  • No clots or massive haemoptysis.
  • Worsening cough.
  • At baseline has symptoms consistent with COPD but no formal diagnosis of same.
  • 80 pack year history of smoking, currently smokes 40 cigarettes per day.Weight loss over past 2-3 months, unable to quantify amount.
